Eliza completed her first year of life on Sunday, June 27, 2010 but we celebrated a day early (on her Aunt Emilee's birthday) so that the family could join us in the festivities. The day was packed with food, cake, a candle and we even topped it off by packing up our apartment to get ready for our big move.
A year ago when she was born I was completely unprepared for everything! Unprepared for for the amount of love I could have for someone and everything that comes along with parenthood. Thankfully, I have had a wonderful companion to help me figure things out as I go. Heavenly Father knew that I would need extra help so he timed it just right. Eliza was born while Dylan was off of school for the summer and completing an internship that he could work on remotely. Then during the school year Dylan and I both spent half the day watching her while the other was at work/school. What a blessing for both of us to have equal time with our child as we beginning. Others might think it was crazy to have a baby during graduate school, but it was the perfect time. I'm glad that God took control of the timing and not me. Now its hard to believe that I was so scared of such little things (that felt so big at the time) such as giving her a bath. She was so little and I was worried about the water being to hot or too cold and I was nervous about a slippery wiggling baby falling out of my hands. Now we have a little girl who is confident splashing around in the bathtub.
A big thanks to all of our family who came to celebrate with us. Eliza thanks you for the pictures you drew, the letters you wrote to her and of course for the presents. She will enjoy her toys and clothes in the months to come. Also, she enjoyed her first Sorensen tradition of striking her piƱata. Thanks for making it Grandma!
How grateful we are to have Eliza in our lives! What a joy she is to our little family!
